Feijão a Portuguesa

Throughout Portugal, beans are a traditional side dish to pork, chicken, fish and beef. There are many variations on Feijão a Portuguesa. For extra spice, add the hot chili pepper.

 

Ingredients
1 lb. pinto beans
1/4 lb. bacon, chopped
1/4 lb. linguiça, chopped
1 onion, minced
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 can tomato sauce (8 oz.)
2 tbsp. chili powder
1 tbsp. worcester sauce
1 tbsp. cumin
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 hot chili pepper

Instructions


Wash beans and soak them overnight. Do not drain, simmer for about 3 hours. In a skillet, fry pork, sauté onion and garlic. Add mixture, tomato sauce, and spices to beans. Mix all and simmer for about 1hour. Add water if necessary
