Manuel das Neves Virissimo was born in Paul do Mar, Madeira, Portugal on May 6, 1922. He died peacefully with his family at his side at UCSD Medical Center on December 2, 2007. He worked as a commercial fisherman in South Africa and the United States. He married Virginia Correia Gonçalves and they raised three children together. When he retired he enjoyed gardening, cooking, watching sports, especially the San Diego Padres, spending time with family and regularly meeting friends for coffee at MacDonald's and sharing stories from the past and catching up on current events. Manuel is survived by his sisters Anália and Germána (Madeira, Portugal); brothers Lourenço (San Diego), Germáno (Venezuela), António (South Africa); children Manuel, Dina and José of San Diego and eight grandchildren. Viewing will be at Beardsley -Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday, December 6, 2007, 4 to 7 p.m. with Rosary following. Service will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church, December 7, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
