Delma Julia Luz Silva |
Delma Julia Luz Silva passed away on July 11, 2008, at the age of 84, after a ten year struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was well-liked and cordial to all and always had an air of dignity about her. She was born in San Pedro, CA on January 8, 1924, to Manuel and Julia Luz, who arrived in this country from Madeira, Portugal. She was one of five children who spent their early years in San Pedro before moving to Point Loma with her mother, after her father died tragically at sea. She graduated from Point Loma High School and soon married Carl John Silva. They were married for 65 years before Carl died of natural causes and a broken heart due to Delma's worsening health condition. They built their first home on Garrison St. where she began raising four boys. They lived there for 16 years before purchasing a home on Fleetridge Dr., where they lived together for 26 years. Delma is preceded in death by her husband Carl. She is survived by her children, Carl Jr., Richard, Brian, and John, six grandchildren, two great-grand-children, and her sister, Mary Da Rosa. Her family will miss her terribly. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 17th, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Beardsley-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1818 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Mass will be held at Saint Agnes Church, Friday, July 18th, at 9:30 a.m. preceded by a Rosary at 9:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Assoc. of San Diego or to San Diego Hospice. |
