PORTER, CHRISTINE FRANCES

Christine died of natural causes on Monday morning, September 24, 2007, at Scripps Memorial Hospital. Christine was born the youngest of six children in Providence Rhode, Island. Her parents were Anthony and Mary Silva (Texiera from Portugal). She spent her formidable years in Providence and in her college years she made her family very proud by being awarded the title of Ms. Rhode Island. In 1946, her family moved to Fontana, CA and there she married Paul Harold Suhl and had three children, Larry, Pamela and Darrel. In 1968, her husband Paul died and she later married Julian Porter. Julian started a business in San Diego in 1968 called Flame Spray Inc. Julian died in 1994, and Chris continued to function as the comptroller of the business until the time of her death. During her 39 years in San Diego she made many lifetime friends but the most important part of her life was her devotion to her family. She treasured holidays and the joy she received from having all of the family together. Christine was an avid Catholic and devoted to her faith. She is survived by three children and their spouses; Larry and Roxy Suhl of El Cajon, Pamela and Richard Scalzo of San Diego, Darrel and Jan Suhl of El Cajon along with brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Margie Silva who live in Sun City and her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Phillips who lives in San Clemente. She has four grandchildren, Jeff, Scott, Kim and Amy. Christine was also a very proud great-grandmother of four, Trevor, Jaime, Tyler and Jessica. Christine touched so many people in so many positive ways that her passing is a tremendous loss to her family and friends. She will be missed by all those whose lives she has touched and given her love and devotion to. Services are scheduled as follows: A Viewing Thursday, September 27th, 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121; 858-453-2121. Rosary and Mass Friday, September 28th, 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 6628 Santa Isabel Street, Carlsbad, CA 92009; 760-434-4456. Burial Friday, September 28th, 12 p.m. at El Camino Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in memory of Christine Porter to the Scripps Health Foundation, P.O. Box 2669, La Jolla, CA 92038. A Celebration of Life will follow in a couple of weeks.
