PERREIRA, LARRY Captain Larry Perreira, age 64, passed away on December 20, 2008, with all of his family by his side. He was a lifelong resident of San Diego. He was born in Oakland, California, on April 3, 1944 (the same birthday as the love of his life, Marie). Larry learned early in life how to overcome many obstacles. He battled polio and asthma as a child. The teenage years were brighter. At 17 years old, he started his tuna fishing career of 45 years.
Soon after, at the age of 19, he met the love of his life, Marie Albanese. Two years later on November 27, 1966, they married and had three beautiful children. Larry's main goal in life was to provide for his wife and children. He did just that and more. He enjoyed cooking gourmet meals for his family. The Perreira house was the best restaurant in town. Larry's successful fishing career took him all over the world, from his early days as a crew member in San Diego, to trips off Africa, Peru, Panama and such far away places like New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon's and his favorite, New Zealand, which he always considered "God's Country." He was known as a rebel and lived life by his own terms.
His fishing peers knew him by the nickname he was most proud of "The Cobra." He will be missed by many that fished under his command. He is survived by his beautiful wife Marie and his three loving children Monique, Danielle, Kevin, son-in-law Marc, son-in-law Larry and daughter-in-law Brittany.
He leaves behind his six grandchildren, Chanel, Priscilla, Jason, Nathan, Dylan and little Isabella, who were all his pride and joy. He is also survived by one sister, Connie Wagner. This larger than life man will never be forgotten.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd, at 11 a.m., St. Agnes Church in Point Loma.
