Mario Nunes, 78, of New Bedford, died Wednesday November 26, 2008, after a long illness. He was the husband of Margaret (Martin) Nunes and son of the late Manuel and Augusta (Gonsalves) Nunes. He died at Brandon Woods of New Bedford. Mr. Nunes was born in New Bedford and had lived in San Diego for 46 years before returning to New Bedford several years ago. He was employed by the city of San Diego as a senior plumbing inspector for over 22 years. Mr. Nunes was a very dedicated member of the Clube Madeirense S.S. Sacramento serving as a festeiro seven times. He came back for every feast for over 40 years. He enjoyed woodworking, going to Madeira and especially being with his family. Survivors include his wife; two sons Michael Nunes and his wife Jan of New Bedford, Dennis Nunes and his wife Barbara of San Diego; one brother Victor Nunes of New Bedford; three grandchildren Jacob Alan Nunes and Andrew Franklin Nunes both of San Diego, and Mackenzie Rose Nunes of New Bedford, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Manuel, Anibal "Ned" and John Polycarpo Nunes.
His memorial Mass will be said at 10 a.m., Saturday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Arrangements are by the Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Boulevard.
