Edith was born to Antoine and Mary Qualin on August 9, 1911 in Gloucester, Massachusetts. She moved to San Diego with her family in 1928. Her devoted husband, Alphonse, preceded her in death in 1984, as well as brothers, Eddie and Anthony Qualin. Her grandchildren, Mathew Green, Ron, Russell, and Leslie Silva love to talk about the delicious meals, especially Portuguese recipes that VaVa enjoyed cooking for family members. Her house was always open to friends and neighbors in her condo-complex. Edith loved making cookies and giving them to her mailman and sanitary engineers. In the recent past, she enjoyed the social events held at the Presbyterian Church for senior aerobics, programs and lunches.
During the past year, her devote care-givers, Sidneia Nagayma and Eva Hananel were there for her also. The retired Senior Volunteers came to visit every other day. Edith's great-grandson, Sean Green, would always draw a picture for his VaVa and this brought her a big smile. Edith and Al were at their grandchildren's sporting events whenever possible and wore their buttons with the children's pictures. Surviving family are daughters, Lorraine Silva (Philip), Valerie Green (Thomas), nephews, Wendell and Sonny Neves.
