John Mello, 62, of Poway, died on Thursday, April 30, 2009, of Agent Orange-related lung cancer. Mello, a Fall River, MA native, moved to San Diego in 1962. A decorated Marine, he served in the Vietnam War in 1969, where he earned two purple hearts. Following his service, Mello worked for NASSCO for over 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Leslie; son and daughters, John, Kira and Stephanie; daughter-in-law, Janice; grandchildren, Joey and Kylie; his mother, Dorothy; and sisters, Judy and Donna. Services will be held Thursday, May 14th, 10 a.m. at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
