August 1, 1906 to Feb. 24, 2008 Carmen Martin (Qualin), loved beyond measure by her family, she was a mother, grandmother (Nan), sister, and a best friend to many. Carmen was an avid bowler and bingo player, was amazing at growing slips from her "favorite" gardens, and was happiest while eating an ice cream cone. She was fun-loving and had an infectious and contagious laugh and was usually part of some practical joke. She had unmatched courage and grace and a few choice words through all of life's trials. She and her husband Frank Martin were one of the first families of the Portuguese Fishing Community to settle in Point Loma in the early 1930's, and made this area their home. Carmen is survived by brothers Joseph Qualin and Anthony Qualin; son Richard and daughter Elaine; five grandchildren Chris, Cathi, Don, Connie, and Kay-Kay; seven great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Carmen passed peacefully in her home with her family at her side. Memorial Mass and Rosary will be held Thursday, February 28th, at 10:00 a.m, at Saint Agnes Church, 1145 Evergreen Street, San Diego, 92106. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to San Diego Hospice.
