John Canepa of San Diego passed away on April 10, 2009, at the age of 92, surrounded by his wife of 62 years and family. John was a lifelong San Diego resident, born November 12, 1916, in San Diego to Govonni and Lougia Canepa. He is a Navy veteran and served in World War II as a chief engineer. After the war, he married Columbia Luizzi in 1946, they had four children. He was a retired tuna fisherman and fished on the Lou Jean and the Gina Karen. After retirement, he became an avid golf and played up until November. He is preceded in death by two sons John and Nick Canepa. He is survived by his loving wife, daughter Louise Motta and husband Richard, son Michael and wife Deanne, three grand-children and two great-grand-children.
Services will be held at 9 a.m., Tuesday, April 14th, at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to San Diego Hospice, 4311 3rd Ave., San Diego, 92103. Arrangements handled by Merkley Mitchell Mortuary
