Jose Correia Caboz, 75, of Point Loma, passed away at his home after enduring a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his wife Elizabeth and his close family. Jose was born in Paul do Mar, Madeira, Portugal, and immigrated to Point Loma in 1951, a place he always made his home. In 1952, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth, and they were married soon after at Our Lady of the Rosary Church on December 27, 1953. After arriving in San Diego, Jose continued to show his love for the sea by maintaining a successful tuna fishing career that spanned decades. His reputation grew over the years as a loyal, skilled and hardworking fisherman and soon the opportunity arose for him to become a fish captain, his childhood dream. He continued to Captain super seiners until his retirement in 1987. Before his illness, Jose was very active in the Portuguese community and was a proud member of the Festa Do Santo Amaro, Inc. He was a kind man who loved his wife, family, faith and his Portuguese heritage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vasco and Julia Correia Caboz and his brother, Manuel C. Caboz. Jose is survived by his adoring wife, Elizabeth, sister Maria Jose Rodrigues, sister- in-law Nazare R. Caboz and brothers and sisters-in-law, Alan and Carolina Wright and Dominic and Barbara Sabatini. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand-nieces and nephews as well. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sharp Hospice Care, who provided Jose with excellent care. The Celebration of his life, will be Friday, February 29, 2008, his 76th Birthday, at St. Agnes Catholic Church.
