Anthony "Tony" Brown, 88, of San Diego, passed away on November 27, 2008.
He was born in New Bedford, Mass., on August 27, 1920, to Antone and Mary S. Brown. He was the eldest of five children. Tony spent his early years in Visalia, CA, graduating from Visalia Union High School. In 1942, Tony joined the U.S. Navy serving on the Carrier USS Altamalta; the Squadron Fleet Air Wing 14 and Naval Air Station Pearl Harbor. He was also a "Sergeant" in the San Diego County Sheriff's Reserve Assoc. Tony was a Engineer Technician for Air Pollution Technology, until his retirement. He was a member of VFW of Lemon Grove and Cabrillo Civic Club #16, San Diego.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret C. Hayes in 1991, and survived by brother, Edward J. Brown (Loraine); sisters, Adelaide "Ida" Mazorlig, Virginia Correia of San Diego and Sister Mary Silveira of Tracy, CA, and many nieces and nephews and friend, Mary Frye.
A Memorial Mass will be Tuesday, December 9, 2008, 10:00 a.m., St. Agnes Church, 1140 Evergreen St., Point Loma. Interment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Tuesday, December 23rd, 10:00 a.m., Cabrillo National Dr., Point Loma.
