Anthony Silveira Agueda, 87, was a long-time resident of Templeton and died of natural causes Jan. 14, 2009. Tony, as he preferred to be called, was born in his parents' farmhouse in Oceano in 1921. He attended the Arroyo Grande school system. |

In 1940, he married Lucille Agueda and moved to their new farm in Templeton. Tony was a sergeant in the military during World War II and was honorably discharged after the war ended. In 1946, he moved to San Diego to participate in the tuna fishing industry. He quickly rose to the rank of chief engineer. He spent a year in Africa teaching the people there about commercial tuna fishing. By 1960, Tony moved back to Templeton resuming his career in agriculture.

| Tony was president of the Templeton PTA and successfully helped to defend the Templeton School District in the 1960s from being unified into the other school districts. Tony was one of Templeton’s most dedicated and passionate sports fans. |

| Tony is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucille Agueda, daughter Betty Bristol, son Anthony Agueda Jr., son Steven Agueda. eight grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. |
