It doesn't happen every year, but the San Diego Rock 'n Roll Marathon seems to land on the same day as the Festa do Espirito Santo about every third year. When they do coincide, those people attempting to drive to Point Loma on the day of the Festa are faced with long delays, detours or flat-out road closures that they weren't expecting. To avoid stress and missing the parade, you should should know which roads are affected.
The majority of road closures along the Marathon route, with the exception of the Start and Finish
areas, will be between 5:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Southbound Highway 163, between Interstate 805 and
downtown, will be closed from 2:00 a.m. until noon. A few freeway on- and off-ramps will be closed;
a detailed list of ramp closures is available on the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon website. All other freeways
and highways will remain open, however, delays should be expected.
