A dedication ceremony originally scheduled for December 8, 2007 has been delayed. The delay comes as a result of the City of San Diego's requirement to bid out jobs over a set dollar value. The monument's frame construction was held up until three companies bid on the job.
The unveiling was initially set to follow Pearl Harbor Day; a date that would have been especially fitting since the Yard Patrol (YP) boats proudly served our country in World War II. The U.S. Navy converted over 50 Tuna boats into YP boats. One of the purposes of the YPs was to deliver goods to our servicemen, as well as transport sick and wounded soldiers to safety.
The ceremony's site is in Tuna Harbor, next to the U.S.S. San Diego. The new unveiling date has yet to be determined, but PRESD will post the new date as soon as it becomes available.
